The Harvest

Georgia is one of the biggest exporters of Bitcoins worldwide. In the region of Kakheti in particular, traditionally famed for its vineyards and orchards, cryptocurrencies are being mined intensively. Director Misho Antadze, who studied under James Benning at CalArts, explores the relationship between nature and technology in his observational documentary, albeit without providing any explanations, showing instead the material conditions that make this gold rush possible. Computers, server rooms, cables, the humming sounds of drones and mainframes - the abstract, non-representable elements of the virtual world are inscribed into the surroundings in many different ways.
